March 4 - 5, 1999, Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg
The workshop takes place in building 22, room A21 on the campus of the University of Magdeburg. The breaks and
exhibitions are in rooms A128 and A129.

Leave Autobahn (highway) A2 at exit "Magdeburg-Zentrum". Then your are on the "Magdeburger Ring" (highway through the city) which you must leave at exit Rothensee, Neustadt, ..." (third exit), turn right into the "Mittagstraße" (direction "Neutstadt, Stadtmitte" (city)). At the traffic light turn right into the "Lübecker Strasse". After about 1 km (0.75 miles) the street is now named "Gareisstrasse". At the second traffic light turn left into the "Henning-von-Tresckow-Strasse" (direction "Universität" (university)), immediately turn right again to the entrance of the campus. There is a small parking lot in front of the entrance to your right. For other parking lots, please refer to the map above.

From the railway station you can take tram no. 1 (direction "Lerchenwuhne"), no. 5 (direction "Messegelände)
or no. 8 (direction "Neustädter See"). Tram no. 8 stops right in front of the main entrance of the
main railway station. To find trams no. 1 and no. 5 leave the station at the main exit, turn left and walk down
to the intersection with the "Ernst-Reuter-Allee", the trams 1 and 5 stop at the traffic light. Leave
the tram at stop "Universitätsplatz" (third stop). The university is on the other side of the "Universitätsplatz".
Cross the "Universitätsplatz" on its right hand side and cross the traffic light. Your are now on
the south entrance of the campus.
You can buy tickets for the tram in the service center of the the railway station (located in the entry hall) or
from a vending machine (coins only) outside the station at the main exit (to your right). A single ticket is DM
2.50 and it is valid for 90 minutes for any direction and you can change trains as often as you wish. You can find
vending machines at almost all tram stops. If you buy a ticket in the tram from the driver, it is more expensive.
Remember to stamp your ticket immediately after you entered tram in which you begin your trip. At the tram stop
in front of the main railway statition there is a ticket booth. If you just want to travel between railway station
and Universitätsplatz, you can also buy a CityTicket (short distance ticket) for DM 1.00. It is valid for
one direction only, so you may want to buy another one for your journey back to the railway statition.
You will also find taxis at the station. Tell the driver you want to go to the Technische Universität (Technical
University). Tell the driver to drop you off at the entrance at Pfälzer Strasse. This is where building 22
- the workhop site - is located. The trip is around DM 10.00. If the weather is nice, you may want to walk. It
is only a 25 minutes walk to the university. Leave the station, turn left and go to the intersection with "Ernst-Reuter-Allee".
Cross the street and turn right. Follow the "Ernst-Reuter-Allee" east, cross the next traffic light (intersection
with "Otto-von-Guericke-Straße"), and after another 200 meters turn left into "Breiter Weg"
(the tram also turns left there). Follow "Breiter Weg" north until it ends at the "Universitätsplatz".
The university is on the other side of the "Universitätsplatz". Cross the "Universitätsplatz"
on the right side and cross the traffic light. Your are now on the south entrance of the campus.
